A mid-Michigan CPS investigator is facing child molestation charges
Daniel William Hulings, a 34-year-old man from Bath Township, northeast of Lansing, has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor. The victim, who is not associated with any of his work-related cases, told authorities that Hulings had repeated sexual contact with her from the time she was 16. The incidences are allegedly spread out over more than a year.
What charges is Hullings facing as a result?
According to the Clinton County prosecutor’s Office, Hullings is facing seven counts of Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. Under Michigan law, a Third Degree CSC conviction carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, and that’s one charge. If Hullings is convicted on all, or several, of the charges, and the presiding Judge decides to sentence him to serve his terms consecutively, he may be behind bars for many decades.
How do these allegations affect Hulling’s job at CPS?
Hullings has been suspended without pay from his position at Children’s Protective Services, although there there has been a public outcry at what people are perceiving as a lack of appropriate response. Bob Wheaton, a spokesman for the state Department of Health and Human Services, pointed out in a statement to the media, that as of now, these are just allegations. The department will not be taking action until Hullings is either convicted, or found not guilty.
